TALES OF YOUR TAILS: Youth Writing Contest

As a part of the 2021 Summer Reading Program, Trails Regional Library is hosting a writing contest that incorporates the summer animal theme “Tales and Tails.” The program will have two rounds for entries. Winners will have their writings and illustrations featured on our local PBS-KMOS station and the library website.

AGES

0-17

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Write your own unique animal story! Begin by brainstorming your animal characters and their traits. Use the provided worksheets to design your story before you write. You can illustrate it, too!

RULES AND SUBMISSION 

You may use the provided paper or your own paper to write your story. You can also type the story in a Word document, email, or other word processor.

Submit your story and the entry form via email or drop off at your local library branch. Email stories and pictures to marketing@trailslibrary.org. Children who cannot write can have their stories written or typed by someone else.

Minimum of 50 words and maximum 500 words.

DEADLINES

Entries submitted before April 15, 2021 will be included in Round One of the Contest, with

5 entries will be selected to be featured on our local PBS station, KMOS.

Entries submitted after April 15, 2021 until June 15, 2021 will be included in Round Two of the Contest, with 9 entries selected to be featured on the library website and social media.

TIP:

Worksheets are just to get started. Use the parts that you like and feel free to expand on those ideas. You don’t need to use each one. Be sure to have extra paper on hand.
